I finally can post some pictures. I bought a card reader (leitor de cartões, as I just learned) from FNAC and I also got some Portuguese music. Yesterday Joy took me to a mall called Amoreiras and I got some very delicious chocolate shots. Then we went to IKEA. It was so crowded! Also I bought some things there that I bought in the U.S. before I left. It really was exactly the same. Except that at the cafe they sell cod instead of chicken fingers or whatever else is in the U.S.
After that we went to Christina (Joy's boss)'s house. It was a very lovely home, and one of the largest I've seen in Europe, at least in the actual city. She has views of the bay and it's gorgeous.
Today we went to church, and it was fun to meet all of the members. Church is supposed to be from 9 to 12, but for the Portuguese that means it was 9:15 to 12:45. I bore my testimony in Portuguese, so that was cool. Also, today was mother's day in Portugal, so all of the little kids sang. It was really cute. I'm not sure what I'll do for the afternoon, but I might need some rest. Below are some pictures of what I've done this week.
Pictures of where I live
This is a Chinese shop. It has all kinds of random stuff. There is basically a Chinese shop on every street.
A nearby street with a view of the bay.
The praça closest to my house. There are a million praças like this in Lisbon, and all of the statues look the same. When I first got here, I never knew how I would tell them apart.
The metro station I use to get to work.
Cafe A Brasileira. That is a statue of Fernando Pessoa because he used to dine here.
Popular shopping street in Chiado. I'm going to go on that sky walkway soon.
H&M, I love thee.
Santa Justa elevator between Baixa Chiado and Rossio (Praça de D. Pedro IV); built in about 1900 by an apprentice of Gustave Eiffel.
Rossio: probably the best known praça in Lisbon. It has the same sidewalk pattern as Copacabana in Rio.
The restaurant where I had my traditional Portuguese dinner.
The chocolate shots I had. Delicious.
These are all from Christina's house.
(Cristo-Rei; inspired by Cristo Redentor in Rio)
(The bridge leading across the bay)
Me in front of an out-of-commission electrico. People are always taking pictures here.
