Lisboetas Are Always Cold.

This morning I went to the Mercado da Ribeira. It was pretty cool. It was mostly fish and meat and produce and flowers, with the occasional vat of olives or bucket of snails. Apparently snails are quite popular in Portugal because I've seen way more snails here than I ever did in France. I'll probably try them again while I'm here. When I had snails in Paris, they were not my favorite, although they weren't bad.

Anyway, while I was walking this morning I realized I was literally the only person without a coat of some sort, and I saw thousands of people. It was probably 65 degrees out, so a sweater wasn't really necessary, but people from Lisbon (lisboetas) are always wearing coats unless it's above 75, and even then most of them are still wearing coats. I don't understand. I'm always sweating on my way to work because it's so humid, and everyone else has trench coats on. I usually bring a sweater  if I don't have my suit jacket on because otherwise I definitely stick out as a non-Portuguese person.

Here are some pictures of the market.

eels and octopus

these were still moving. FRESH.

There were two big halls full of produce.  Mostly nothing too exotic though, unlike Brazil.

Hanging sausages is the norm.

Work was pretty slow today. I just did some stuff that BYU requires and then reviewed old projects.

After work I went to Restauradores Square which is at the bottom of the street I work on, and I mostly just did some window shopping.

Then I went to the top of the street where I work to Marques de Pombal Square. I also went Eduardo VII Park, which was having a book fair.

Here are some photos.
Avenida da Liberdade, near where I work. It's quite a pretty street. It has lots of fancy shops like Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, and all of the others.

Restauradores Square. Hard Rock Cafe is the reddish building in the background. I'll go there soon.

I bought this gelato and then dropped 80% of it on the ground. Well first on my pants, then on the ground. Proud moment.

Train station at Restauradores

Marques do Pombal. Very business-y

Book fair at the Eduardo VII Park (named after the British monarch)

View from the top of the park down to Marques do Pombal, down Avenida da Liberdade and toward the bay. Love it.
This building is at the top of the park. It looked familiar, and I realized it's where the court that I went to was.

This was one of those fancy things where you can buy something with your phone by scanning a QR code. Mostly I like that it says "I love sexy paper." Also this was in the Marques do Pombal metro stop, where there is popcorn cooking, which makes the whole metro station smell great. So much better than the usual garbage/alcohol/dead people smell. More metro stations should serve popcorn.
